A Year When Freedom Felt Deeper and Pride Soared
Celebrating 14th August 2025
14th August makes us remember the great ride of our country and how Indian Muslims fought their way to independence and how Pakistan went on to celebrate our sovereignty every year. However, 2025 is different. In this year it carries more in the depths of our hearts, more than ever, and pride is more audible than ever. It is not only the time to celebrate the past, but also the time to appreciate the current heroes who give us a new meaning to our independence.
Freedom is frequently quantified by the number of laws, constitutions and rights, but its real value is sensed in the day to day bravery and sacrifices of men who keep and care and develop the country. These examples have been so inspiring in 2025. In communities joining together to help social activities with regular citizens standing on their ground during difficult moments.
Thereby, reminding the world that independence is not a date on a calendar but a breathing living commitment.
Perhaps this year has been marked with one of the most astonishing effects in that heroes have emerged with their actions in reviving national pride. All over Pakistan, it is seen young innovators bring solutions to tackle critical challenges, healthcare professionals working relentlessly to take care of the vulnerable, and educators who have been molding minds, with an enduring spirit and ingenuity. These heroes are not the ones that you read in the headlines in the news and yet their works are of great impact. However, it reminds us that when people in free nations do their job and are responsible and courageous what remains is a true land of freedom.
The pride has been increased this year by the resilience shown by the recent conflict between Pakistan and India.
Mid 2025 events have tested the strength of the nation, its unity, and its will in ways that only a few could have predicted. All the armed forces did magnificent job to defend their beloved homeland. Bravery became a very immediate show of how the defense was handled with the valiance, decisiveness and resilience by Pakistan Army.
The nation rose and defended itself during the onslaught, which demonstrated that sovereignty is not only protected by past events but through vigilance, courage, and uncompromised determination as well.
This year the celebrations are more purposeful.
CM Maryam Nawaz has had a revolutionary impact on the revival of culture in Punjab, Pakistan. She launched a project to transform 170 heritage sites, including 101 Gurdwaras and 53 churches, into world-class tourist attractions, elevating Punjab as a top cultural destination.
During Punjab Culture Day, she promoted pride in the Punjabi language and urged youth to preserve their roots, while advocating welfare programs for local artists. She revitalized traditional fairs like the Horse and Cattle Show and Mela Chiraghan, strengthening cultural roots.
Beyond heritage, she inaugurated Pakistan’s first Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Education, reflecting her vision to integrate cultural values into education.
Thereby, empowering the younger generation with a strong sense of identity.
Notably, pride, though, this year is about remembering. In fact, it is about now and the future. 2025 has brought much consideration socially, economically and even geopolitically.
The recent diplomatic success is worth mentioning. The recognition of BLA and its Majeed brigade as a foreign backed terrorist organization is a case in point.
Through the process, the spirit and will of our people have shone. Societies have taken up action in terms of empathy and solidarity, reminding them that independence cannot last without responsibilities. Liberation is possible only when it is practiced with integrity and compassion, and what has happened this year has taught this lesson so beautifully.
This story of our nation is not yet complete, and everyone is a part of it who influences its destiny. The country has seen so many stories of bravery, success, and solidarity this year on a deeper level, courage through the more recent conflict, success in fighting against it, and solidarity with grief during it all. They remind us that freedom does not come free, it is won, defended, and enhanced by each generation.
To 14th of August 2025 is not the usual day of Independence. It is a reminder that liberty tastes sweeter when its worth is practiced each day and that patriotism flies higher when there are heroes within our reach to spur us to action and that solidarity is better when there is citizenship in times of adversity. This Independence Day is a day filled with recollection, gratitude, and a newfound sense of patriotism because of the trials that this year has brought, both in our normal lives and in extraordinary times.
