Noor Wali Mehsud Fasad, Not Faith

Pakistan has been fighting terrorism for more than two decades. Thousands of civilians, soldiers and clerics were killed. But sadly, some groups justify killing in the name of Islam. Noor Wali Mehsud, the current chief of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), is one of them. He calls himself “amir” (أمير) which means commander, leader and “mufti,” but the fact is that he is neither a scholar nor the Mufti. He is also not a graduate of any authoritative religious institution, nor has he received certification from any reputable scholar. All his “fatwa-baazi” is just propaganda.
Self-proclamation of Noor Wali Mehsud as “mufti”
Noor Wali Mehsud calls himself a “mufti”, but he is actually the “mufti of murder”. He does not have any degree in Fiqh, Hadith or Tafsir. His fatwas are not of any scholarly weight but merely propaganda for terrorists. The scholars agree that a person who does not know the basic principles of knowledge cannot be entitled to give fatwa. That’s why all his religious talk is fake and only justifies bloodshed.
‘Ajazah” and ‘Sanad” are very important in Islam. Every scholar has a knowledge chain that connects him to the first scholars and madrassas. Noor Wali Mehsud doesn’t have it all. His chain of command is only with murderers and terrorists, not with clerics.

Attitude of recognized institutes towards Noor Wali Mehsud
Credible religious institutions in Pakistan and around the world reject Noor Wali. He was not recognized by Darul Uloom Deoband, Binoria, Jamia Farooqia, and Al-Azhar as their student. These organizations have made it clear that the fatwas of terrorism are against Islam.
Noor Wali has never been a teacher or a student in any formal religious school. He is not even an imam, a khatib in madrassa and mosque. Giving fatwa in the name of Islam by such a person is just a deception.
Noor Wali does not belong to any Sunni religious jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, Hanbali). He does not follow a single legal principle on a permanent basis. He is not able to lead the congregation, nor is he able to give fatwa. Yet he proclaims “Jihad” in the name of Islam. The fact is that this is not jihad but rebellion.
Concept of Suicide in Islam and Noor Wali Mehsud’s perception
Suicide is forbidden in Islam. In the Quran and Hadith, there is no permission to kill oneself or others unjustly but Noor Wali Mehsud called the suicide attacks “jihad.” On his orders, mosques, madrassas, imambargahs, schools and public places were targeted. Women, children and pilgrims were all victims of terrorism. According to a 2023 report, more than 650 civilians and security personnel were martyred in TTP attacks on the name of “jihad” in just one year. It’s not Islam, it is terrorism.
The Holy Qur’an says: The killing of one soul is the killing of all mankind.
“Whoever kills an innocent person, it is as if he has killed all mankind” (Al-Ma’idah 5:32).
Islam has given the highest respect to human life. But Noor Wali and his companions consider this life to be the cheapest. They are not followers of the Qur’an or the Sunnah. His motto is actually a manifesto of murder and plunder, which is being run with foreign funding and arms.
Noor Wali is not defending Islam, but breaking Islam from within. He twists the verses of the Qur’an and uses them to justify his murder and plunder as “halal to kill”. He deceives people that this is “Jihad,” even though it is only a rebellion.
In Islam, it is a great sin to call a Muslim an infidel. But Noor Wali calls every Muslim who opposes him an infidel and deserves to be killed. His behavior reminds of “Khawarij” that had raised the same temptation against the Muslims in the first century Hijri.

Consensus of Islamic scholars
The scholars of all schools of thought in Pakistan have repeatedly said that terrorism is against Islam. In 2018, more than 1,800 Islamic scholars issued a fatwa in the name of “Paigham Pakistan” that suicide bombings, killing of innocent civilians and rebellion against the state are all haram. Nevertheless, Noor Wali and his companions ignore these fatwas. They are trying to mislead people with their lies.
The true teachers speak in the books while Noor Wali has no book, only a bomb. He argues with the bombs. Its degree is death, its course is blood.
According to a report by the PICSS (Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies), terrorist incidents increased by 120% in 2023. The TTP claimed responsibility for most of the attacks. Hundreds of civilians were martyred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. According to the United Nations, more than 80,000 people have been victims of terrorism in Pakistan since 2001. All this is evidence that the narrative of Noor Wali is actually a narrative of bloodshed and an enemy of humanity.
Noor Wali Mehsud is a false “mufti.” He has no knowledge, no ‘Ajazah’, no ‘Sanad’, no authority, and no sense of justice. His “fatwa-baazi” does not benefit Islam but presents the agenda of the enemies. He is neither a scholar nor a leader, he is just a terrorist. Islam has nothing to do with it. The true scholars, madrassas and the Muslim Ummah reject his “fatwas”. Pakistan has to continue not only the intellectual but also the practical jihad against such kind of false narrative.
