Pakistan Victim of State-Sponsored Terrorism

Pakistan Victim of State-Sponsored Terrorism
Contrary to UNGA Aspiration
The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly will open on 9 September 2025. It has the theme of Better together 80 years and more of peace, development and human rights. The slogan is noble. The desire is common to everybody. But to Pakistan peace and development are far fetched. The reason is clear. It still languishes in state sponsored terrorism.
Hardly any country has had to pay a greater price than Pakistan. Over 80000 lives lost. More than 150 billion dollars of economic damage has been incurred. Pakistan has resisted these tragedies. It is waging a strong battle against terror.
It does not give up its belief in world peace. But it has sacrifices that are frequently ignored.
India’s Proxy Network
India is the largest contributor of terrorism in Pakistan. There has been a long standing support of the armed groups against Pakistan by the Indian state. Its goal is simple. Weaken Pakistan, destabilize it and damage its image. Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) are the major examples. They are both Indian backed proxies. The BLA already has been declared a Foreign Terrorist Organization. This is evidence of the Indian sponsorship being systematic.
Balochistan Under Siege
The province which is most affected is Balochistan. The BLA and BLF wage war on innocent civilians and security forces. Attack on Infrastructure, school and trade routes attacks. The violence is not random. It is directed, funded and planned outside. India’s hand is clear. The target of Pakistan is its stability.
What challenges does Pakistan face due to terrorism coming from Afghanistan?
State-sponsored terrorism is a major challenge confronting Pakistan because it is contrary to what the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) desires global peace and security. Afghanistan is one of the fronts of this struggle where Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) takes refuge on the Afghan territory. These cross border havens offer militants convenient havens where they re-align themselves to attack within Pakistan. The Kabul administration has found it hard to exercise authority over such militant groups leading to continuous intrusion into the Pakistani land. The rural areas, especially towns and villages on the border, are the main sufferers of this insecurity as they are affected by violence, displacement, and economic disruption. This continuing inability to bring to heel militant sanctuaries does not only continue to propagate instability in Pakistan, but also to impede the greater peace in the region, creating an atmosphere of mistrust and confrontation that frustrates the diplomatic and security cooperation between the neighbors. What the situation demonstrates is that there is an urgent need to unite efforts in dealing with militant safe havens and creation of a stable and peaceful region that is in line with the global peace ambitions.
Regional Peace at Risk
The potential threat of India and Afghanistan is enormous. It undermines the economy of Pakistan. It kills investor confidence. It consumes health, education and development resources. Terrorism does not simply kill human beings. It kills opportunity. It delays progress.
Resilience Against Odds
Pakistan has shown strength. It has dismantled networks. It has enhanced the security within the country. It has reconstructed war ravaged cities. But resilience has limits. External pressure is always constant to the detriment of progress. The dream of peace and development fades. UN needs to take action before it is late.
Better together is the theme of the UNGA that requires fairness. Pakistan should be appreciated in terms of sacrifices. It is the world that should be supported to oppose outside aggression.
Peace, development and human rights are all that the UN claims to believe in and therefore they should make state sponsors of terror stand up. Silence only fuels violence.
Pakistan is still a prey of state sponsored terrorism. India funds proxies. Safe havens are found in Afghanistan. Israel comes into the game via political agendas. The consequences are devastation in the Pakistani security and economy. The world is celebrating peace at the UNGA, and the reality of Pakistan gives a different story. To achieve any real peace terrorism as a state craft should be denounced. Otherwise, it will leave the offer of Better together a hollow motto.
