The Brutal Reality of Balochistan’s Proxy War on Its Own People

Identity Under Assault

That haughty consciousness is now assailed and corroded by an interior sentiment which, being fed and guided by influences without, is eating its way back into the interior. In the last 20 years, there has been a deadly corrosion that has taken hold, not naturally, but through a well-financed, well-planned, concerted effort by foreign powers to cater to our complexity, an effort that is almost like feeding the lion so it may turn and devour. War Proxies , extremist groups masquerading under the banners of activism and rights. Such organizations without any regard to the Baloch culture have ended up as pawns in the hands of a foreign agenda and have actively been systematically inserted into the very fabric of Baloch society with the intent of bringing about its destruction. They have not a mission of liberation, but of destabilization; not progress, but permanent turmoil.

When “Activism” Masks Atrocity

The techniques used are an ugly distortion of Baloch ideals. Instead of doing the duty of protection they once did, they are lying in wait on lonely roads and killing would-be innocent passengers. The ordinary working folk who eked out a daily living, the doyens of modest societies, are assassinated with a cold-blooded ease, and life is offered on the altar of a contrived crisis. Cultural icons, poets, musicians, artists who preached unity and celebrated heritage, they are silenced, their voices censored, and their message of peace is threatened to the narrative of perpetual grievance needed by the perpetrators of conflict in the effort to sell its product to that of perpetual grievance. A brotherhood tradition that was the basis of tribal life has been replaced by intense suspicion. The heroic Baloch valour is ended by coward crimes: assassinations, explosions in public marketplaces. The initial victim of the war is truth which is being overwhelmed by a deafening media barrage of propaganda aimed to demonize the state, to justify barbarity. These proxies go on rampant extortion, bank robberies, and cold-blooded murder of other Baloch who dare to disobey their foreign funded narrative or even speak up in favour of dialogue, under the cynical mantle of fighting “rights.”

Leadership Vacuum and Exploited Voices

The hierarchical system of leadership which was supported by revered elders who resolved conflicts, and which informed wise governance of communities has been intentionally sabotaged. It has left a kind of vacuum that others (namely demagogues doling out hate and division) are very happy to fill. It is disturbing that some of these segregate voices are those of females. It is not that of empowerment of Baloch women, who had been respectable in the past and have the potentials of becoming real agents of social advancement. Instead, it is educated women that are being tragically used, promised and seduced, manipulated and blackmailed, and are horribly driven to do such unacceptable crimes such as suicide bombings. This is not an activism; this is the ultimate misuse of vulnerability, a means to create some sensations and spread the message of destruction, hiding it behind the vocabulary of liberation. In the same way, Baloch men, who have several generations behind them which took adversities by the head with pride, are hardly heard in their protests anymore as masked people are prevailing. It is not this anonymity that is primarily protective, but a situation oftentimes displacing the genuine strength of facing the world, of genuine courage, into an artificial victim act carefully scripted and blown up by artificial proxies.

Erasing Heritage, Seizing Control

Let us be unequivocal: the true target of this two-decade onslaught is not merely the Pakistani state, but the very essence of Baloch culture. The proxies and their foreign masters do not seek rights grounded in Baloch tradition; they seek absolute control. They do not desire progress built on Baloch aspirations; they crave power exercised through fear and division. They are willing, even eager, to obliterate centuries of rich heritage, the codes of honour, the deep loyalty, the moral clarity, to achieve their geopolitical objectives. The destruction of Baloch identity is not collateral damage; it is the central aim.
The rugged beauty of the land endures. But the soul of Balochistan, its defining spirit of honour and integrity, is fighting for its life against a hijacking two decades in the making. The path forward lies not in the destructive agendas of foreign proxies, but in the resilient hearts of the Baloch people themselves, remembering who they truly are and demanding their future back. The journey home must begin.
