Early Life and Background

Asif  Afridi was born on 25 December 1986 in Peshawar, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.  His full name is Asif Khan Afridi, and he bats left-handed while bowling slow left-arm orthodox spin. Over the years, he has established himself as a bowling all-rounder in Pakistan’s domestic system.

Domestic Career & Achievements

Afridi’s domestic career has been the backbone of his cricket journey. Some of his notable domestic experience includes:

• Representing FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in first-class, List A, and T20 matches.
• Over his career, in first-class cricket, he has taken nearly 198 wickets at an average in the mid-20s, with best figures of 6 for 36.
• In List A cricket, he has also been a useful contributor with the ball, and has provided lower-order runs.
• His sustained performance in domestic matches put him on the selectors’ radar.

However, Afridi’s career hit a major setback in 2022. He was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a period of two years after admitting to violations under the PCB’s anti-corruption code, specifically failing to report an approach for corrupt conduct.  Because of that ban, his cricketing momentum was interrupted.

After serving that suspension, Afridi returned to domestic circuits and started rebuilding his case for possible international selection. His consistency, experience, and revival in form would have been key in the consideration for higher honors again.
