PCB Central Contracts Shake-Up: Babar and Rizwan Demoted From Category A

By ONV News Desk | August 20, 2025

Big names take a hit

Whoa, talk about drama in cricket land. The Pakistan Cricket Board just dropped their central contracts list for 2025-26, and, get this, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, legit two of Pakistan’s biggest names, just got bumped down a notch. Last year, they were chilling at the top in Category A. Now? Welcome to Category B, fellas.

No Category A players this year

But here’s the wild part, no one, literally zero players, made it into Category A this time. The board just split everyone, 30 guys, into B, C, and D. Ten in each. So, yeah, feels like they’re tossing out the old “big names get big perks” vibe and basically saying, “You gotta earn your spot, bro.” It’s all about what you’ve done lately, not who you are.

Why the shake-up?

Honestly, can you blame them? Pakistan’s had a rough stretch, flopped at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, didn’t exactly shine in the ICC Champions Trophy either. So, Babar and Rizwan, both of them, just felt the consequences. Kinda brutal, but hey, that’s cricket politics for you.

Rising stars get rewarded

So yeah, while Babar and Rizwan just got bumped down a notch, some of the other guys are living their best lives right now. Agha Salman, T20 skipper, he jumped from Category C to B. Saim Ayub, that young opener with swagger, and Haris Rauf, the guy who bowls like he’s got a rocket strapped to his arm? Both climbing up, too. Oh, and the PCB? They’re spreading the love, expanding the contracts from 27 to 30 players. Twelve newbies just landed their first contracts. That’s not subtle. It’s the board basically yelling, “Hey, we’re serious about fresh blood.” No one’s safe, man. Mess up, and you’re out.

What’s next for Babar and Rizwan?

Now, Babar and Rizwan… phew. People can’t stop talking about what’s next for them. You toss in their contract drop and the fact they got snubbed for the Asia Cup, oof, not a great look. Maybe this lights a fire under them. Or maybe we’re watching the old guard get swapped out for the new kids. Who knows? Guess we’re all just gonna have to wait and see if these guys bounce back or if this is the start of a full-blown youth takeover.
