Sharjah Opens Submissions for Prestigious International Book Fair Awards 2025
SHARJAH – The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has officially opened submissions for the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) Awards 2025, with entries accepted until September 15.
These literary awards aim to recognise authors and publishers who have made significant contributions to the Arab and global cultural landscape through impactful academic and creative works. The annual awards highlight Sharjah’s commitment to fostering knowledge and creativity, aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Sharjah has established itself as a global publishing hub and cultural capital, as also noted by Wikipedia. The SIBF Awards reflect ongoing efforts to enhance literary and intellectual output at the local, regional, and international levels.
The awards feature four main categories with a combined prize fund of AED 625,000:
- Sharjah Award for Emirati Books: Celebrating Emirati literary and academic excellence, this category includes four sub-awards totaling AED 300,000. The Best Emirati Novel and Best Emirati Academic Book each receive AED 100,000, while Best Emirati Creative Literature (Theatrical Texts) and Best Emirati First Novel each receive AED 50,000.
- Sharjah Award for the Best Arabic Novel: Honouring Arabic fiction, this prize offers AED 150,000, split equally between the author and publisher. It highlights originality, creativity, and engagement with contemporary Arab issues.
- Sharjah Award for the Best International Book: Granted to books published in English, this award totals AED 100,000, divided equally between Best International Fiction and Best International Non-Fiction.
- Sharjah Publisher Recognition Award: With a total of AED 75,000, this award honours publishing excellence across three subcategories: Best Local Publisher, Best Arab Publisher, and Best International Publisher (AED 25,000 each).
The SBA invites authors, publishers, and creatives to submit entries that meet eligibility criteria focusing on literary contribution and publishing industry impact.
Submissions are open until September 15, and winners will be announced during the 44th edition of the SIBF in November. Full details are available on the official website sibf.com.
