IAEA Deputy Chief to Visit Teheran

IAEA Deputy Chief to Visit Teheran Amid Nuclear Cooperation Uncertainty
TEHERAN – The Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to visit Iran on Monday, according to a report by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Araghchi stated that the visit aims to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the IAEA. He emphasized that Teheran has already provided the agency with necessary clarifications regarding a new framework for bilateral cooperation, in line with legislation passed in late June by the Iranian Parliament and Constitutional Council to suspend certain collaborations.
The Foreign Minister clarified that no inspections or visits to Iranian nuclear facilities are planned during the IAEA deputy chief’s trip, stressing, “We have not yet reached a new agreement and the cooperation would not begin.”
Iran’s decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA followed Israeli-US attacks on its nuclear facilities and the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists in June. The country maintains that it will uphold this suspension until the security of nuclear sites and scientists is guaranteed.
Earlier, the Fars News Agency reported that Massimo Aparo, the IAEA Deputy Director-General and head of the Department of Safeguards, will lead the delegation to Iran.
