Nancy Mace Accused of Berating Police and TSA in Airport Meltdown
Nancy Mace Faces Backlash Over Airport Meltdown Caught in Police Report
South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace is under scrutiny after a newly released police report detailed a profanity-laced outburst at an airport security checkpoint, where she allegedly berated officers and TSA personnel. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when Mace was attempting to access the Known Crewmember (KCM) entrance, a restricted lane typically reserved for verified airline crew members.
According to the report, dispatch notified officers that Mace was at the KCM entrance demanding access. When police located her, she allegedly began “loudly cursing and making derogatory comments” toward the officers, calling them “fing incompetent**” and declaring, “This is no way to treat a fing US Representative.**”
Heated Confrontation and Escort to Gate
The report adds that as officers escorted Mace to her gate, she referenced her South Carolina colleague Senator Tim Scott, claiming, “You would never treat Tim Scott like this.” Officers said Mace continued to shout into her phone while walking toward Gate B-8, either during a call or while dictating messages, continuing her tirade until she boarded the plane.
After her flight departed, an American Airlines gate agent reportedly told police he was “in disbelief” over her behavior, implying that “a US Representative should not be acting that way.”

TSA Officials Also Filed Complaints
The TSA supervisor on duty expressed frustration, telling officers he was “very upset with how she acted at the checkpoint.” According to the report, Mace had spoken to “several TSA agents the same way,” and the supervisor confirmed that a report would be sent to TSA superiors for review. The incident occurred during a period when TSA agents were not receiving full pay due to the ongoing government shutdown, adding another layer of sensitivity to the situation.
Mace’s Team Responds
In a statement to WIRED, Cameron Morabito, Mace’s director of operations, defended the congresswoman’s actions, emphasizing heightened security concerns following the Charlie Kirk assassination. He said, “We are forced to take the Congresswoman’s safety extremely seriously. Any attempt to politicize this reality is both dangerous and reckless.”
Mace later appeared to address the story on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“For the FAKE NEWS: This is the entrance ALL Members of Congress use at the airport. Are you going to write that Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott use the same entrance or no?”
Neither the TSA nor American Airlines has issued an official comment on the matter.
Police later confirmed that security footage showed Mace had been dropped off in a BMW of a different color than initially reported, which contributed to confusion during the incident. The report concluded with officers noting that any other person acting in a similar manner “would have been addressed immediately” under department policy.
