Arshad Nadeem’s Medal Hopes End After Missing Top Eight in Tokyo Final

Pakistan’s javelin star Arshad Nadeem saw his medal bid come to an early end at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo after failing to make the cut for the top eight in the men’s javelin final.

Nadeem began the evening with a throw of 82.73 metres, falling short of the 85.28m mark that had carried him through the qualifiers. His Indian rival Neeraj Chopra, who followed him in the order, edged ahead with 83.65m, while Germany’s Julian Weber opened the contest strongly at 83.63m. Moments later, Anderson Peters of Grenada raised the bar with a big 84.59m effort.

The surprise of the night came from India’s Sachin Yadav, who stunned the field with a massive 86.29m throw in his very first attempt, seizing the lead and putting pressure on the rest.

For Nadeem, the competition quickly turned tense. His second attempt ended in a foul, pushing him further down the standings. By the end of the second round, he was in tenth place, with one final chance to break into the top eight.

Despite digging deep, his last attempt reached 82.75 metres — just short of the cutoff. With that, Pakistan’s top hope bowed out of the championship, his campaign ending in frustration on the track of Tokyo’s Japan National Stadium.
