Google Launches AI Mode in Pakistan with Gemini 2.5

ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis can now experience Google’s AI Mode, a next-generation AI-powered search tool designed to answer questions more naturally and in greater depth than ever before.
Originally launched in the United States earlier this year, AI Mode is now rolling out worldwide, with Pakistan among the newest countries to gain access. Powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, the feature allows users to type or speak longer, more complex queries that previously would have required multiple separate searches.
A new way to search
Available through the Google app on Android and iOS, as well as on mobile and desktop web, the tool can handle everything from trip planning to academic help. Early testers have already shown that queries are two to three times longer than traditional searches — proof that people are using it for more exploratory and creative tasks.
In its announcement, Google explained:
“AI Mode dives deep to answer multiple questions at once, with helpful links for further exploration.”
What it means for Pakistani users
For people in Pakistan, AI Mode opens new possibilities. A student could type: “My child is in grade 9 and struggling with algebra — what free online resources in Pakistan can help?” and instantly receive structured answers, along with suggestions for interactive apps or YouTube channels.
Travelers can plan entire itineraries in seconds. A simple query like “Plan a 5-day trip to Hunza in October with sightseeing, adventure and local food spots” can generate a tailored travel guide, complete with recommendations for traditional dishes.
The tool is also multimodal, meaning it works with text, images, and voice. A shopper at a spice market could snap a picture of unfamiliar herbs and ask: “What are these spices and how can I use them in Pakistani cooking?” — then follow up with conversational prompts for recipes.
How it works
Behind the scenes, AI Mode uses a method called “query fan-out,” breaking down one big question into smaller subtopics and running multiple searches at once. The system then blends results from across the web, the Knowledge Graph Wikipedia, and real-time shopping data.
This combination allows Google to deliver results that feel less like a list of links and more like a complete, structured answer.
A smarter but evolving tool
While AI Mode promises smarter and more comprehensive responses, Google has cautioned that it is still an early-stage AI product. This means results may sometimes be incomplete or inaccurate, and users are encouraged to double-check important information.
Still, the arrival of AI Mode in Pakistan marks a significant step toward making AI search more accessible, interactive, and personalized for everyday users.
