Pakistan’s Power Generation Rises 8% in August, Costs Edge Up 3%

Pakistan’s Power Generation Rises 8% in August 2025 as Demand Strengthens

Pakistan Pakistan’s Power Generation Rises 8% in August 2025 as Demand Strengthens produced 14,218 GWh of electricity in August 2025, up 8% year-on-year compared to 13,180 GWh in August 2024, pointing to stronger demand and signs of improving economic activity.

On a month-to-month basis, output edged up 1% against 14,123 GWh in July.

For the first two months of FY26, total generation reached 28,341 GWh, slightly higher than last year’s 28,060 GWh. Analysts said the August boost was driven by hotter weather and a notable increase in coal-based generation, which helped meet the surge in demand.
