Over 140,000 Candidates Sit for MDCAT 2025 Across Pakistan and Riyadh
ISLAMABAD: More than 140,000 candidates appeared for the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025 on Sunday, competing for 22,000 seats in public and private medical and dental institutions across Pakistan. The nationwide examination was held at 32 centers, including an international venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) confirmed that the MDCAT was being conducted simultaneously by several major universities, including the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, Sukkur IBA University, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) Quetta, and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) Islamabad.
PMDC President Dr Rizwan Taj said that all universities had finalized comprehensive arrangements to ensure a fair, transparent, and secure examination process. “All universities conducting the MDCAT were advised to thoroughly review and implement the required arrangements to maintain fairness and transparency,” he stated.
According to Dr Taj, security measures at all centers included the installation of signal jammers to prevent the use of unauthorized electronic devices. He added that universities were required to provide comfortable seating arrangements, proper cooling or heating systems, and drinking water facilities for all candidates.
“Examination venues are equipped to accommodate the large number of candidates with adequate seating and all necessary facilities,” Dr Taj said. “Universities have also been instructed to adjust environmental conditions according to weather and ensure that all students can take the exam without difficulty.”
To maintain integrity and transparency, the PMDC has established strict examination protocols. Candidates were provided bubble sheets with carbon copies to ensure accurate record-keeping and verification. The question papers were opened only in the presence of witnesses, and completed answer sheets were collected immediately after the test and stored securely.

Dr Taj said that all original examination papers would be retained by the respective universities for at least 12 months after result declaration, ensuring the availability of records for any review or audit process.
He also announced that the official answer key for MDCAT 2025 would be uploaded on university websites immediately after the examination, allowing candidates to cross-check their responses. Full results are expected to be announced within one week.
To further enhance transparency, the PMDC has instructed universities to prepare a comprehensive post-hoc analysis report within 10 days of the final result announcement. This report will evaluate the test process, question validity, and scoring consistency.
Additionally, universities have been directed to provide a re-checking facility within three days of the result publication, allowing candidates to request verification of their marks.
Dr Taj reaffirmed PMDC’s commitment to maintaining academic merit and fairness across all participating institutions. “We want every student to have complete confidence that the process is transparent, secure, and merit-based,” he said.
The MDCAT is one of the most competitive academic examinations in Pakistan, serving as the gateway to medical and dental education nationwide. With over 140,000 students vying for 22,000 seats, the test remains a defining moment for aspiring doctors and dentists across the country and abroad.
