Punjab Government to Solarize 355 Public Colleges
The Punjab government has started a major project to solarize 355 public colleges across the province. This step aims to reduce electricity costs promote renewable energy and modernize educational infrastructure. The plan is part of Punjab’s vision to move toward clean energy and improve facilities in public sector institutions. The project will be completed in three phases by the year 2028. It will include an installed solar capacity of almost 19 megawatts which will produce around 24 million electricity units every year. This will help save more than one billion rupees for the government each year by reducing dependence on the national grid.
Along with lowering costs the solarization program will also support environmental goals by cutting carbon emissions and promoting green energy. Rooftop solar systems will be installed in all colleges to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for classrooms laboratories and offices.
Solarization of 355 Public Colleges
The Higher Education Department and the Energy Department of Punjab are working together on this project. The colleges will be divided into phases to make sure installation work does not disturb academic activities. Rooftop solar panels and energy management systems will be installed in every college. After completion the colleges will become self reliant in electricity. This will reduce their power bills and create a better learning environment for both students and teachers.
Some colleges will also get battery storage systems to keep the power running during load shedding. Maintenance arrangements will be made to ensure long term performance and safety of the solar systems.
